Hvar island bus guide: Čazmatrans timetables, routes and alternatives
If you're planning to travel between towns on Hvar without renting a car, the local bus is one of the cheapest ways to do it. Public transport on the island is run by Čazmatrans, linking the main hubs: Hvar Town, Stari Grad, Jelsa, Vrboska and Sućuraj. Island bus travel does come with its own logistics, cash rules and route limits, and they're worth knowing before you arrive.

The network is built around connecting the ferry ports with the island's towns.
- Stari Grad ferry port and Hvar Town: by far the busiest route, with departures generally timed to meet the car ferries arriving from Split.
- Hvar Town, Jelsa and Vrboska: links the town in the south with the coastal towns on the northern side of the island.
- Stari Grad town and the ferry port: a short connector for passengers arriving without a vehicle.

What to know before you board
- Tickets are cash only: in most cases you buy from the driver as you board, so bring small euro notes and coins. Drivers often can't change a large note.
- Timetables follow the ferries: schedules differ between peak summer and the rest of the year. Summer brings more departures during the day, but the gaps between them can still run to several hours.
- Station to station only: buses set passengers down at the main bus stations. In Hvar Town the station sits on the edge of the harbour area, so you carry your luggage the rest of the way to your apartment or hotel.
Where the bus falls short
For simple town-to-town journeys the bus does the job. In a few situations it clearly doesn't.
- No beaches: buses stay on the main road. A driver will sometimes set you down on the road above Dubovica or Zaraće, but that is at their discretion, not a scheduled stop, and Sveta Nedjelja and the smaller coves have no service at all.
- Almost nothing late at night: if you're out at a beach club or a restaurant, options after hours are very limited or gone altogether.
- Luggage in the pedestrian zone: hauling suitcases over cobbles and up steps from the bus station in the summer heat is hard work.

Any bus to dubovica? cant find it on the timetable
There is no stop at Dubovica itself. The Hvar to Stari Grad bus passes on the road above and some drivers let you off, but there is no fixed return. Most people take a taxi for that one.
Waited 50 min for the jelsa bus on a sunday. fine if youre not in a hurry
