Using the bus on Hvar
- Fares and tickets Fares are distance-based and amount to a few euros between the island towns. Tickets are issued by the driver on boarding and paid in cash, in euro. There is no online sale and no card payment, and change for large notes is not guaranteed. Oversized luggage may be charged extra.
- Ferry connections Departures from the Stari Grad port are scheduled around Jadrolinija arrivals from Split, and services from Hvar Town reach the port ahead of the sailing. A delayed ferry shifts the connection, so the departure board at the port takes precedence over the printed timetable.
- Stop locations Hvar Town: the bus station stands at the edge of the harbour, where the D-116 leaves town, roughly five minutes on foot from the Riva. The historic centre is closed to vehicles. Stari Grad: the stop is beside the ferry ramp. Jelsa and Vrboska: stops are central, near the waterfront.
- Peak season traffic The D-116 carries all traffic on the island and delays are common in July and August. Where an onward ferry or flight depends on the bus, take the departure before the one required.
Network limits
What the bus network does not cover
Buses are the cheapest connection between the island towns. Three limitations are worth noting before relying on them.
- Bays and beaches The route follows the D-116, well above the shoreline. Drivers will sometimes set passengers down on the road above Dubovica and Zaraće, but this is at their discretion rather than a scheduled stop, and a steep walk down to the bay follows. Sveta Nedjelja and the smaller coves have no service. Access is by car, taxi, scooter or boat.
- Station to accommodation Services terminate at the bus station. Much of Hvar Town consists of stepped lanes closed to vehicles, so the final stretch is covered on foot, luggage included.
- Operating hours The last departure is before midnight and the first is in the early morning. Early ferry connections and late evening travel fall outside the schedule.

Ferry and catamaran connections from Split
Bus departures are scheduled around arriving vessels, so the two timetables are best consulted together. Hvar has two points of arrival, around 20 minutes apart by road.
Passengers only. Catamarans berth on the Hvar Town Riva, inside the pedestrian centre, so no onward bus is required. Capacity is limited in peak season and advance booking is recommended.
Choosing a route
With a vehicle there are two crossings: Split to Stari Grad, or the shorter Drvenik to Sućuraj ferry at the eastern tip of the island, which leaves around 90 minutes of driving to Hvar Town. Not on a single ticket. The journey combines a bus to the ferry port, or a catamaran from Hvar Town, with an airport shuttle or taxi on the mainland. The services are not coordinated, so allow additional time.
Do the buses run outside the summer season?
Yes. Čazmatrans operates a reduced schedule outside the summer period, oriented towards school and work travel rather than ferry arrivals. The times on this page apply from 7 September 2026.
